Well if you were hoping to sign on the dotted line for the Hyundai Santa Fe diesel, you’ll be disappointed to hear that Hyundai has decided to not bring it to the US.
When Hyundai unveiled the 2019 Santa Fe, it did announce that a diesel version would be offered in the US, but now it’s decided to cancel those plans, which also means the three-row Santa Fe has also been canceled. The three-row Santa Fe was supposed to be only offered with the diesel.
Hyundai spokesman, Brandon Ramirez, confirmed the bad news to Green Car Reports. The decision to cancel the Santa Fe diesel coincides with Kia’s decision to also not bring the diesel powered Sorento the US as well. According to Hyundai, the last minute decision to not bring the diesel-powered Santa Fe to the US was because the latest studies indicated that buyers would not fully love a diesel-powered crossover.
If you are still in the market for a diesel-powered crossover, there are still a few options over at Chevy, GMC, Jeep and Jaguar Land Rover. Mazda has been promising a CX-5 diesel, but it has yet to announce when it will arrive.
