The Honda S2000 sadly left us in 2009, but now it’s being reported that Honda is working on a new S2000 that will arrive around 2017.
Since the S2000 left five years ago there have been rumors about a return, but nothing has been confirmed. Auto Express is now reporting that the S2000 will return in 2017 and in Europe it will slot in between the upcoming S660 and next-generation NSX. Unlike the last S2000, which was a convertible, it’s being reported that the next one will be a coupe.
The next S2000 will also reportedly be powered by a more powerful version of the same 2.0L turbocharged engine that will power the upcoming Civic Type R, with somewhere around 350 horsepower. There’s also a rumor that it could get a hybrid system as well that will allow it to reach 0-62 mph in around five seconds.
With a new Mazda MX-5 Miata and the reported Fiat version just around the corner, it looks like Honda may be ready to bring back beloved roadster.
