Mazda took the wraps off the all-new 2016 CX-9 three-row crossover today at the LA Auto Show. The new CX-9 adopts Mazda’s Kodo design language and more importantly, it is the first Mazda to be powered by its new 2.5L turbocharged engine.
The new 2.5L turbocharged engine is based on the naturally-aspirated 2.5L four-cylinder that powers the Mazda6. The 2.5L generates 250 horsepower (227 with 87-octane) and 310 lb-ft. of torque. Mazda hasn’t released the fuel economy stats, but estimates that it will be around 20 percent more fuel efficient than the outgoing V6. The four-cylinder is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ all-wheel drive is available.
