The current generation Hyundai Sonata arrived for the 2020 model year and although it stands out more than the previous generation, it’s styling may be a bit too polarizing. A new report claims that Hyundai isn’t happy with the sales of the Sonata and instead of giving it a mid-life refresh, it’s going to introduce a redesigned Sonata around 2023.

South Korean website Auto Post is reporting that sales of the Sonata have plummeted in South Korea, with Hyundai officials saying that the current design is a failure. The redesigned Sonata will still use the current powertrains and platform as the current generation, but it will getting a completely new look.
While we can admit that the styling of the Sonata isn’t for everyone, doing a complete redesign this soon into a model’s lifecycle is not the norm. Hyundai also hasn’t made any announcements about the future of the Sonata, so all that we can say now is that this report is just a rumor.
