Has it really been over seven years since Mazda first announced that the Mazda6 midsize sedan would get a diesel in the US? Well although Mazda first announced it back in 2012, the only diesel model it’s managed to sell in the US so far has been the CX-5 diesel. Well it looks like that might finally change, since a CARB certification documentĀ has revealed that the Mazda6 diesel has been approved for sale in the US.

The document also shows that the Mazda6 diesel will be powered by a turbocharged 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D four-cylinder, which will be mated to six-speed automatic transmission. The document refers to the 2020 Mazda6, so an announcement should be coming.
The 2.2-liter diesel generates 168 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque in the CX-5.
