We’ve been wondering what Jaguar has planned for the future of the F-Type sports car. For more than a year we’ve heard several rumors about the next-generation F-Type, which might switch to a mid-engined layout.

Now it’s being reported that Jaguar’s designers and engineers are currently deciding between sticking with the current front engine layout or to switch to a mid-engined design for the next-F-Type. Sources have revealed to Autocar that the mid-engined design is currently being preferred.

Former design director Ian Callum also recently revealed that he worked with his successor, Julian Thomson, to come up with the design of the next F-Type, which could take some inspiration from the C-X75 concept. The design involved moving the engine from the front to just behind the cabin. “We could get quite close [to the C-X75],” Callum stated.
For now the current F-Type is slated to stick around for about another three years, but the good news is that Jaguar is already working on the next F-Type in a market that favors SUVs over sports cars.
