Dodge has unveiled the updates to the 2019 Dodge Charger, which has a new face, but more importantly the new model year brings some performance upgrades. The 2019 Charger also gets a new SXT all-wheel-drive model and new Charger GT rear-wheel-drive performance models.
Dodge hasn’t revealed the full 2019 Charger lineup, but the 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat does get what Dodge calls a more “imposing” face. The Charger SRT Hellcat’s new face gets a You’ll notice there’s a new grille with two new air inlets to send more air to the engine 6.2L supercharged V8. A Satin Black painted hood option and Brass Monkey 20-inch forged wheels are also optional.
To pump up the performance of the 2019 Charger SRT Hellcat, Dodge is giving it a new Launch Assist feature that uses wheel speed sensors to watch for driveline-damaging wheel hop at launch. The Line Lock system also locks the front brakes to keep the Charger SRT Hellcat in place, but lets you heat up the rear wheels. An After-Run Chiller automatically cools the supercharger/charge air cooler after the engine is shut off and Torque Reserve, which closes a bypass valve to prefill the supercharger to generate a reserve of torque that is delivered from a standing stop.
The rest of the 2019 Dodge Charger lineup gets smaller changes. The 2019 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack with its 485 horsepower 6.4L V8 gets Launch Assist, Line Lock and the same grille as the SRT Hellcat. The 2019 Dodge Charger R/T returns with its 370 horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, while the new Charger SXT AWD and CHarger GT are powered by the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine with 300 horsepower and 264 lb.-ft. The base 2019 Charger SXT is powered by the same Pentstar V6, but with 292 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft.
The 2019 Dodge Charger will arrive in the third quarter of this year.
