The 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro builds on the bold redesign introduced last year, refining what was already one of the most capable and rugged midsize trucks on the market. With its aggressive styling, trail-focused upgrades, and advanced tech, the TRD Pro continues to push the envelope for off-road performance.

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Review

Under the hood, the Tacoma TRD Pro is powered by a potent 2.4-liter turbocharged hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain, replacing the outgoing V6 with a combination of power and efficiency that’s hard to ignore. Producing an impressive 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, this new hybrid setup provides significantly more muscle for rock crawling, highway merging and city driving than the outgoing V6. The hybrid system does limit EV-only driving to short bursts at low speeds or downhill stretches, but the overall boost in performance more than makes up for it.

The eight-speed automatic transmission is another highlight, offering smooth shifts and intelligent gear selection whether you’re crawling through technical terrain or cruising on the freeway. Paired with standard four-wheel drive and an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, the Tacoma TRD Pro is ready for anything you can throw at it, rugged trails or boulders along your route.

It can tow up to 6,000 pounds and is rated at 22 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

The Tacoma TRD Pro also stands out with its 2.5-inch Fox Racing QS3 shocks, which not only make it more capable than ever when the road ends, but also offering a surprisingly comfortable and confident ride on paved roads. The improved steering feel and more composed cornering further enhance the on-road experience, making this truck more versatile than its predecessors.

Visually, the TRD Pro looks the part of a true off-road companion. From its steel ARB rear bumper to its lifted stance, this is a purpose built truck. Inside the cabin is packed with modern tech, like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.0-inch infotainment touchscreen. There’s also a 10-speaker JBL audio system that includes a removable dash-mounted speaker, perfect for campsite tunes or tailgating events.

That said, all this capability comes at a price. Starting at $65,230, the Tacoma TRD Pro sits at the higher end of the midsize truck market. The rear seat legroom is also on the tighter side, largely due to the space taken up by the unique IsoDynamic Performance front seats with built-in shock absorbers—innovative, but not without tradeoffs. And while the engine delivers ample power, it does get loud when pushed.

Still, for adventurers who demand both tech and toughness, the 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is one of the best off-road trucks you can buy. With a hybrid heart and serious trail chops, it’s a modern pickup that’s equally at home on rocky trails as it is on the daily commute.
