Honda has already announced plans to introduce the first ever hydrogen fuel-cell powered CR-V later this year and now we have our first look at it.

Fuel-cell vehicles are still rare, with only a few models available, like the Hyundai Nexo or Toyota Mirai. The CR-V FCEV will stand out from other fuel-cell vehicles, since it also has a lithium-ion battery that can be charged via a plug, which means that it’s technically also a plug-in hybrid.

That will definitely help with the scarcity of hydrogen filling stations, since the CR-V FCEV will be able to move down the road using the energy from the battery. It hasn’t been announced what the electric range is.

Honda has confirmed that the CR-V’s fuel cell system will be built in Michigan and production has already begun.
