The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that the 2021 Lincoln Nautilus has received its second highest safety rating – Top Safety Pick. Lincoln made updates to the headlights to reduce glare on vehicles built after March 2021, which helped the Nautilus receive the award.

To qualify for the Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must earn good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The vehicle must also be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations and at least one headlight package that earns a good or acceptable rating. To qualify for the higher-tier Top Safety Pick+ award, good or acceptable headlights must be standard across trim levels.
The 2021 Nautilus received the top “good” score in all the crashworthiness tests and earned “superior” and “advanced” ratings in the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations, respectively. The Nautilus did not receive the Top Safety Pick+ award since not all of its available headlights received a “good” or “acceptable” rating. Only the LED projector headlights that come with the Black Label trim and the Reserve trim with the Ultimate package earned a “good” rating.
