Kia has unveiled the US-spec 2021 Kia Sorento, which is the fourth-generation of the midsize SUV. This time the new Sorento arrives on a new platform that’s wrapped in a more stylish exterior.

2021 Sorento SX

At the front the 2021 Sorento features the latest version of Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille with slim LED headlights. At the rear the “Sorento” name is spelled out across the bottom of the liftgate and there are new vertical taillights. There are also six different wheel designs depending on the trim level you choose, with sizes ranging from 17 to 20 inches.

Inside the new Sorento looks more luxurious and stylish. The diamond quilted leather is a nice touch and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster gives the interior a more modern feel. There’s also either an 8-inch or 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, depending on which trim level you choose.

2021 Sorento X-Line

Other available tech features include wireless charging and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. On the safety front, the Sorento is available with Kia’s Highway Driving Assist, which is Kia’s version of adaptive cruise control with lane centering.

Under the hood there are four powertrain options to choose from. The base Sorento is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Kia estimates that it will have a 27 mpg combined rating.

Next up is the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft. of torque that’s mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It should have a combined rating of 25 mpg.

The greener engine options start with a 1.6-liter turbo hybrid system that has 227 horsepower and will be rated at 39 mpg city, 35 mpg highway and 37 mpg combined. There’s also a 1.6-liter plug-in hybrid system with 261 horsepower that will have a 30 mile electric range.
